Pesach – the festival of freedom

This week we are celebrating Pesach – Passover – when we retell an ancient story of our liberation from slavery and the exodus from Egypt. The Jewish Socialists’ Group is part of a radical tradition that builds on our history to continue the struggle against oppression and slavery, wherever it is happening in the world.

Pesach – the festival of freedom

These are frightening times but we will not stop protesting. We will not stop working for peace, for social justice, and for an end to the violence. We refuse to stand by while the powerful destroy lives, homes and futures, and we will defy attempts to silence us.

Above all, we will not abandon our vision of a future in which human beings collaborate in solidarity and mutual support, to nurture the earth’s abundant resources and share them equally so that all the inhabitants of this planet can live good lives and fulfil their potential.

Most years since the 1980s we have celebrated Pesach together. This year that hasn't been possible so we have made three short videos to convey our hopes and the meaning of this festival.

We wish you a good Pesach!

Here are three short videos.

The first shows the plate of symbolic foods we have on the table at the Seder – the Pesach meal: The Seder Plate

The second is about slavery, from the Transatlantic trade in human beings to the present day. Go Down Moses 2026

The third is a song we sing at every Seder, with the refrain Dayenu – it would have been enough. Here is our version: Dayenu – what would “be enough” to create a better world?

Thank you, Sue Levi Hughes for producing these films.
